A Must Read For Anyone With Insulin Resistance

I recently read Dr. Mark Hyman’s The Blood Sugar Solution and thought his insights were encouraging and eye-opening. This book focuses on healing insulin resistance, prediabetes, and diabetes. Anyone who has any type of blood sugar issue or has precursors to these issues should put this on their reading list.

I highly recommend this book because Dr. Hyman is well-renowned and has many different real life case studies and research to back up his findings. He strongly believes that you can reverse blood sugar issues naturally through positive lifestyle interventions and exercise.

If you are not familiar with Dr. Hyman, you should know that he practices functional medicine. He believes that you need to look at the body as a whole and that everything in the body works in tandem.

To heal or cure a condition, you need to find the underlying reason why something is happening. Most doctors will treat symptoms and aren’t concerned with why it is happening.

“We must learn to treat the person, not the disease; the system, not just the symptoms." ~Dr. Mark Hyman

While the book is lengthy and took me a while to read especially since I wanted to digest all of the material, it is a great resource for people who don’t know where to start. There are quizzes throughout the book to help you determine the areas that you find need to focus on including nutrition, hormones, inflammation, digestion, detoxification, energy/metabolism, and stress & adrenal fatigue.

In addition to the quizzes, he details the supplements you should take to help treat prediabetes as well as diabetes.

He also provides a detailed 6-week basic plan and an advance plan. He also outlines a shopping list as well as personal recipes that he uses in his own life.

Dr. Hyman also offers a wealth of resources on his website. If you subscribe, you also get a free e-book titled: How to Work with Your Doctor to Get What You Need. It details the questions and tests you should be asking your doctor for and how to work with them to get these tests. I think it's brilliant! I am really grateful that he gave this information to his subscribers.

As someone who is insulin resistant myself and is having success reversing this, I'm always looking for natural and holistic ways to take control of my health and make improvements. If you are interested in this type of approach as well, then this book is a good starting point.
